Are the G37 and G25 the same? ›

When comparing the INFINITI G25 Sedan's and the INFINITI G37 Sedan's specifications and ratings, the INFINITI G25 Sedan has the advantage in the areas of typical lower range of pricing for one- to five-year-old used cars, and fuel efficiency. The INFINITI G37 Sedan has the advantage in the area of base engine power.

As with all other vehicles, if you follow regular maintenance schedules and take good care of your Infiniti G37, it can last you 200,000 miles and beyond.

Fuel economy differences between the AWD and front-drive versions were slight; the former model being a touch thirstier on the highway. Both, however, were significantly thriftier than the G37. But the G25 apparently wasn't thrifty – or sporty – enough. Infiniti quietly dropped it from its lineup in 2013.

The 2013 G37 has a reliability score of 4.5 out of five from J.D. Power. That's among the best scores in the entire industry.

Even though the G25 is a little lighter than its G37 counterpart, giving away 110 hp and 82 lb-ft produces predictable results in the sprints: 0 to 60 mph in 7.3 seconds, almost two seconds slower than the G37, and a tenth or two slower than the last IS250 sedan we tested (in 2005).

The INFINITI G25 Reliability Rating is 4.0 out of 5.0, which ranks it 5th out of 31 for luxury midsize cars. The average annual repair cost is $533 which means it has lower than average ownership costs. The severity of repairs is low while frequency of those issues is average, so major issues are uncommon for the G25.

There's not much kickdown delay when you stand on the gas pedal. The G25x's gas savings aren't as great as you might expect. The automatic-equipped G37 gets an EPA-estimated fuel mileage of 19/27 mpg city/highway, while the G25, which is offered only with an automatic transmission, is rated 20/29 mpg.

The most common reasons an INFINITI G25 shakes when braking are bad brake rotors, bad brake pads, or a bad wheel bearing.

Under the hood of the G25 is a 2.5-liter V6 engine, built with the same VQ engine architecture as the 3.7-liter V6 used in the G37.

The G35 has the looks of the more aggressive older sibling, where the G37 perhaps has a more sensible, eloquent look to it. When it came to weight, the lightest G35 was 3,497lbs, compared to a chunky 3,807lbs on the heaviest automatic-transmission G37's.

A next-generation Q60 coupe—that's what the G37 coupe goes by now—will arrive in two to three years. It will be based on the Q50 and presumably offer the same powertrains.

An Infiniti G37 by another name would be the Skyline coupe.
