WHY IS BEING A MENTOR IMPORTANT TO YOU?
I was very fortunate to have the support and guidance of my parents during my formative years. I learned many valuable life lessons from them; some taught, some learned by making mistakes and some simply set by example. I lost my father at 21 and I still miss his advice and counsel but am so grateful for our time together and the wisdom he imparted. Not everyone is as fortunate as I was in having a family support system but that doesn’t mean there aren’t people out there willing and able to help fill that void. I can be one of those people.
I believe too, that everyone needs to know that someone has their back, a support system, someone to hold them accountable when they veer off track.
With my background in banking and investing, I have a good understanding of budgeting and planning. Rob is the entrepreneur in the family and has many varied work experiences, most recently and currently a successful window treatment business.
Robert - Owner Budget Blinds of Central Tampa, Tarpon Springs, and Dunedin.
Rob is known as the visionary blind man in the greater Tampa region and has been the proud owner of Budget Blinds of Central Tampa, Tarpon Springs, and Dunedin since leaving a career in the life safety industry to pursue his passion for window treatments in October 2015. Although raised in Rochester, Michigan, he has been a resident of the Tampa Bay area since 1991 and considers himself a local. His love of boating, fishing, and the beach make him perfectly suited for life in Tampa Bay, and he cannot imagine living in any other place.
Rob is an avid traveler with favorite destinations of Hluhluywe, South Africa and Bogota, Columbia. Rob’s goal is to visit every continent, with Australia and The Antarctic remaining on his list of future destinations. The proud father of four beautiful daughters, Rob is a graduate of St. Petersburg College, a state certified fire marshal, and has certificates in fire inspection and investigation. The active role he plays in the community allows him to meet new people and grow an ever-expanding satisfied client base. Rob is a leader in his field and has had the honor of being awarded the 2017 Budget Blinds Rookie of the Year Award, and subsequently the Million Dollar Club!
Rob and his team at Budget Blinds of Central Tampa, Tarpon Springs and Dunedin live by one motto: “Do whatever it takes to make the customer happy, it doesn’t matter how much is spent or what is bought, as long as they buy from us!”
WHY IS BEING A MENTOR IMPORTANT TO YOU?
I have fond memories of mentors that have changed the trajectory of my life and career. I see this as an opportunity to have an impact on someone starting out, and hopefully, impact them in a similar way. I have served as a mentor in the past with Big Brothers and the satisfaction that is derived in building the relationship is priceless. I look forward to moving forward in this process again.
The mentor, mentee relationship benefits in both directions and will afford me the opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge from a younger generation. I lead a team ranging in age from early 20’s to late 70’s, gaining a viewpoint from a younger generation will offer me insight and help me lead my organization more effectively. I have learned many lessons in life the hard way, and there is no better way to solidify those lessons than by teaching and passing them on to another generation.
