Maxxis Aspen WT EXO/TR 29" MTB Tire [TB00211500] (2024)

High-Volume Casing, Low Profile Tread

The Maxxis Aspen Wide Trail EXO/TR 29" MTB Tire is a premier XC race tire. A low center tread height allows the Aspen to roll quickly but substantial - for XC - side knobs provide cornering traction.

The Maxxis Aspen pushes the limits of a lightweight XC tire designed to have minimal rolling resistance. The Aspen is designed with a high-volume casing to smooth out the roughest roots and rocks, while the dual compounds give optimal traction in the corners.

So if crossing the finish line first is your top priority, then the Aspen was designed for you.

Dont let the small knobs sway you

Fan of the 2.25 Aspen, this just improves everything I like about that tire with the extra volume for rougher XC races. When properly mounted on 30mm inner rims, it puts the cornering knobs in perfect place for grip on hard and loose over hard. Running these front and rear in 2.4 size, its a blazing fast setup that helped set my best times for races and segments. Even has run 2.4 Aspen in the rear for a mixed conditions race with lots of mud sections and surprisingly did OK shedding mud. When conditions fit (dry/dusty, hardpack or loose over hard) running these tires with confidence.

Very light and a good roller!

Using this as a front tire for a race bike. I think it is just the right fit for cart road and single track races.

Traction, volume, insurance, and speed...on an XC tire!

I used to be someone that ran the lightest and fastest rolling tires I could get almost no matter what the situation. I valued the lightweight more than the protection and insurance of reinforced sidewalls and the ability to run lower pressure that comes with a stiffer sidewall preventing you from getting tire squirm at low pressures. I for one will be the first to say that the new direction of wider rims and higher volume tires is better in basically every way than the older narrower thin wall lightweight stuff for XC. I have these Aspen 2.4s mounted on 30 mm internal width rims. I have about two weeks riding on the 2.4s so far and the balance of traction, ride quality, speed and security is second to none. I've been running 15F16R which seems to work very well on mixed conditions of hardpack, loose over hard, and sand with a few rocky and rooty sections. The ride comparison to the 2.25 Maxxis casings is stark, as it's much easier to find a pressure that has good traction, ride and doesn't rim strike on every big root or rock. I am not running liners at this time which I thought I might have to but so far I haven't had a rim strike yet. I'm going to keep running these on both my hardtail and 110mm full suspension and see if there's any condition (other than mud or ice for obvious reasons) where these aren't my favorite. So far they absolutely rock.

    Heavy tire

It rolls well on hard pack but it is heavy. Mine was 780 grams. Traction is limited. For non technical xcross country riding its fine

    Great Tire

This is Great Tire if you would like to ride XC trail.

My setup is pared with Roval Control 29 wheel which have 29mm internal width and Front:18PSI Rear:19PSI.

Small bumps are disappeared and I can lean bike with confidence.

if you ride on paved road, you might feel a bit resistance but trail performance is impressive.

    Not great

It's ok on the back but the transition knobs have to much of a gap when cornering. Also if it is the least bit muddy you will loose all traction.

    Great tire!!

I was using the 2.25 before switching to the 2.4. You can really feel the weight difference. The 2.4 will make your ride taller and the 2.25 is really proven.
