With the final season of Umbrella Academy bringing an end to the time-bending adventures of our favorite dysfunctional superhero family, it’s the perfect time to binge the whole series. Based on the graphic novel by My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way, this bonkers story follows the broken adults who grew up as a team of six super-powered child heroes. I know that sounds like a bummer, especially since the inciting incident is the death of their father, but between the dance numbers, animal-masked serial killers, and the man with a fishbowl for a head, the show is a ton of fun that oozes with character.

One of Netflix’s biggest hits right now, One Piece follows the journey of a young crew of pirates as they set sail with the mission to capture the titular hidden treasure. Packed full of adventure and fantasy, One Piece is a perfect family-friendly series with its impressive set pieces matched neatly by an endearingly comedic script. An adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s popular Japanese manga, this series has brought the story to an even bigger audience thanks to a stellar starring cast who clearly feel right at home. Despite making small changes, the tale stays true to its source material, with each episode jam-packed full of thrills and spills in the face of danger. - Jake Hodges

Despite its immense success and Eisner Award win, Locke & Key, the graphic novel series of the same name by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodríguez, struggled to be adapted for screen. That is: until Netflix stepped in!
The long-anticipated series follows the Locke family — Nina (Darby Stanchfield) and her children Tyler (Connor Jessup), Kinsey (Emilia Jones), and Bode (Jackson Robert Scott) — as they move to the little town of Matheson following the murder of the Locke patriarch, Rendell. The ancestral home distracts the children before they start uncovering secret keys with magical properties. The keys unlock more than just magic, though, as an old forgotten evil arrives to torment the family and those they care about.
Locke & Key is a gripping show that balances its youthful protagonists with mysteries and shocking twists. The show manages to keep readers of the graphic novels engaged while welcoming new viewers as well. The production design is outstanding and leans heavily into the source material. The combination of genres means this show appeals to a wide audience. – Monita Mohan

Husband and wife comedy duo Melissa McCarthy (Life of the Party) and Ben Falcone (Thunder Force) star in this rapturous comedy about a simpleminded everyman getting struck by lightning and becoming the new messenger for God as the apocalypse draws near. Falcone takes the lead as the hapless mouthpiece for the man upstairs, and McCarthy plays his wild party-girl pal, who leads his team of coworkers as they try to get to the bottom of this biblical undertaking. The series has a bit more of an edgy comedic bend that isn’t seen as often in shows with religious connotations, but it does make for an interesting direction for the show. – Tauri Miller
