Really? Had that been in my city, I woulda jumped on it for that price. Granted, I don't know much about Vitus.

Iowegian04-29-09 05:19 PM

^Me too, and it is in my city! I'm hoping someone buys it before temptation gets the best of me....

It's an aluminum bike, so I don't know how it will ride but maybe I'll find out tonight;)

Translation: Small Vitus frames were flexy, I couldn't imagine how flexy a 60 is.

nateintokyo04-29-09 05:51 PM

I had a 60cm bonded aluminum Alan track frame for a year or so and suffice to say it was....supple.

(like a wet noodle)

Any idea if this is because of the material itself or just because of the early aluminum construction techniques?

(if this is too OT then just tell me to shut up...)

edit: FWIW, until jim-bob posted the words "wet noodle" I was thinking of driving up to see it myself.

56cm Panasonic DX-1000 - $275 (backward seatpost n/c)

http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/bik/1146991703.html

Almost mint, barely used classic Panasonic DX-1000 road bike built with top quality Tange tubing. Nice mix of solid, reliable Shimano and Diacompe components. Medium size frame for riders 5'7" to 6'1" or so. Frame is in superb condition, components have almost no wear. The frame is an outstanding example of the fine construction techniques of the Japanese builders of the era. Handling and ride quality are excellent and reflect the fine quality of the frame.

I ride a 56cm vitus 979 and its a great bike, especially for climbing. But I don't know about that 60cm version

The Vitus aluminum frames used tubing with the same diameter as steel tubing (for compatibility reasons) so they were much more flexible than steel frames or aluminum frames with oversize tubing.

That said, a lot of mountain stages were won on Vitus frames back in the 80s.

It's still more about the rider than the bike.

This machine was used to fit a person for a Raleigh bike. It has a nice Brooks leather saddle and a Brooks cushy saddle, let the customer decide which one felt better. It also comes with two sets of handlebars, ram horns and normal. Included is the chart for telling you which bicycle is best for you. The machine is electric and does work. Email with questions or call 307-630-7698.

That bike around here would fetch 4 to 5 times that price.

Got to disagree with that. The Nucleon wheels are worth 200 alone. The frame, in the shape it looks to be in, is worth over a grand. You get the idea from there?

Do you have a pile of old bike parts that clutter up the garage? Are you looking to make an old bike road worthy? Need some tires, shifters, wheels or other stuff for your bike? Well you are in luck.

Mark your calendars for the second annual Re-Cycling Bicycle Swap Meet on Sunday May 17th at the Elting Library in New Paltz from Noon to 4 PM. The library is at 93 Main Street across from Chase Bank.

Bring your used bikes, bike parts, bike clothes and accessories to sell or swap. Your used parts may be another rider's treasure.

Bring in bike related items starting at 10:00 am. Volunteers will help price and tag all goods. At the end of the sale, pick up your unsold items and your cash. 20% of all sales will go to the Fats in the Cats bike club as a fund raiser. Fats in the Cats is a Hudson Valley club that promotes cycling advocacy, trail work, bike friendly legislation and all types of cycling culture. More about the Fats in the Cats at www.fatsinthecats.com.

Come out and help the club raise some money, and get rid of stuff you have been tripping over for years. Be there!
